The statutes for Assens City Archives can be viewed here.
The City Archives serve both citizens and municipal administrations in Assens Municipality – see below.
The municipal archives mainly contain documents relating to the current municipality of Assens and the former municipalities that existed within the geographical area of the current municipality.
A large portion of municipal records have previously been submitted to the National Archives. These can be searched in the National Archives' archive database, Daisy.
Assens City Archives has a reading room in Glamsbjerg, Bogensevej 135, 5620 Glamsbjerg. The reading room is currently undergoing renovation, but archival records can be ordered by appointment. Our collection has not yet been fully catalogued, but you are welcome to contact us if you have any questions about the archive's collection.
THE CITIZEN
According to the Archives Act, private individuals may view municipal archives that do not contain personal information once the archives are 20 years old. If the archives contain sensitive personal information, they will only be accessible after 75 years. Sensitive personal information includes information about individuals' finances, health, sexuality, and similar matters.
If you wish to view municipal records less than 75 years old for research purposes, in connection with the preparation of a book, article, thesis, or in connection with genealogical research, you must apply for access at Assens City Archives.
According to the Archives Act, it is also possible to search for information about yourself. You can only access cases that contain your personal information, and it is not possible to access cases that contain the personal information of spouses, siblings, or others.
If you wish to order archival records for the reading room, apply for access to archival records less than 75 years old, or request information about yourself, please contact the city archives by email.
If your email does not contain sensitive personal information, you can contact the archive at stadsarkiv@assens.dk.
If your email contains personal and sensitive information, you must send it via digital mail. You can send a secure email to Assens City Archives by clicking here.
The City Archives does not process municipal access requests. For this, you must contact the municipal administration where your case was originally processed. You can find out more about access requests at Assens Municipality by clicking here.
LOCAL GOVERNMENT ADMINISTRATIONS
Assens City Archives advises Assens Municipality and sets guidelines for preservation and disposal to ensure that the municipality can meet its archival obligations. The City Archives also assists the municipality with case processing and access to documents. If you are a case worker and need a case file from the City Archives, please send an email to stadsarkiv@assens.dk.
In order to process the case efficiently, we need as much information as possible. Please also state what the case will be used for. For example, whether it will be used in connection with case processing or access to documents.
In addition, it is helpful if you provide as much information as possible about the case and the archive material you are looking for. Here you can see examples of the information that is important for finding a case.
