
It is 00:28 on the night of May 16, 1944. The air raid alarm goes off. A plane crashes in the garden at Gamtofte Presbytery. A huge bang is heard all over the town, the roof of the church lifts and the roof tiles fall to the ground. Those who are awake can see that the church has been badly damaged. The vicarage is in ruins. What has happened and why?
The course "Plane crash over Gamtofte" is based on the violent experience during World War II, when an Allied plane was shot down over Gamtofte by German night fighters. It happened in five places in Assens municipality during the war, and the school course links the specific incident in Gamtofte to student assignments in different genre disciplines within the Danish subject.
Students are encouraged to write about the incident in article, letter or report format.
